This Grizzly Bear Portrait is titled “Feast”. The moment that at grizzly bear gets its claws and teeth into a salmon is an intense moment. Was it the first fish of the day? Did it try and fail to catch fish for hours before landing this one? It’s hard to say, but each bear approaches the feast differently. This young bear, maybe four or five years old, was still honing its skills to catch fish. It failed many attempts before successfully catching a tired spawning Pink Salmon. As the bear holds on tight to prevent an escape, you could feel its energy and intensity was pure focus. It could not afford to drop this fish.
Grizzly bears, in my opinion, are some of the most interesting animals to watch. I so often see myself in the unique personalities of each bear. I’ve observed excitement when they catch their first fist and frustration when one gets away. I’ve seen bears be, as I perceive, “goofy”, throwing their heads wildly around, or galloping aimlessly through a meadow. I’ve watched them silently negotiate tense social boundaries while fishing shoulder to shoulder in the rivers. With enough time spent watching their nuanced behaviours, you’d think you’re getting to know them quite well.
My Grizzly Bear Portrait Collection is prepared in black and white to strip away the distracting fur, water, and background colours and instead emphasize the detailed expression of each bear’s face and their underlying personalities. Focus on their intense eyes, the way they twist their noses as they constantly smell and analyze their environments, and the relaxation or tenseness in their faces. These are individuals with long lives and storied pasts. Beautiful, strong, and worthy of our respect and admiration.
The Grizzly Bear Portrait Collection consists of 20 portraits of different individual bears photographed between 2013 and 2026 in Canada’s Great Bear Rainforest. There will only ever be 25 authentic prints created from each image. Each image comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed and numbered by Edward Savage. The Grizzly Bear Portrait Collection was released in August of 2026.

Each of my Limited Editions are produced and inspected by me. They are then accompanied by my official Certificate of Authenticity stating the image Title, Edition Number, and Date of Manufacture – signed by me.
The first 10/25 prints will be at the current price. Once the first 10 have sold, the price will increase as I run out of editions.
